He takes the players no longer needed and gives the players that are still good and money too.

I love that guy.

Oddly, I am reading a lot of mixed reviews about Oswalt. I am beginning to think Philly fans really are as dumb as people are saying. The guy is a stud.

12 million for this year and next is a bargain for a #2. Philly didn't even have to guarantee the 2012. Philly should build a statue in Wades honor.

Quote:
The Astros will pay $11 million of the approximately $23 million that the 32-year-old right-hander is guaranteed through 2011, sources said.

Also Oswalt waived his demand for 2012 to be picked up at 16 million, in return the Phillies agreed to increase his buyout from 2 million to 3 million.

I am loving this deal

So the Phillies improved there already pretty decent pitching line up, but they still can't score any runs right.

There is a rumor that Toronto would like to help the Phillies with that problem.

The Phillies have scored in their last 7 games.

7,9,5,4,10,6,2.

6 runs a game. Thanks for playing Chad.

To think they could have had a superior pitcher in Lee for nearly the same money without giving up Happ.

Lee is a better pitcher yes. Superior? Well I don't think the drop off is that much.

Now lets do the math.

Oswalt will be a Phillie thru 2011. Money coming out of Philly pockets...10 Million. If they pick up the option then another 16 million. If not then 3 million goes to Oswalt.

Lee would have been a Philly for 9 million in 2009 then a free agent. Lee will command 15-20 million a year.

So what was that about the same money?

Lets talk a minute about Happ.

He's been healthy for the better part of 2 months, yet they chose to keep him in Triple A instead of helping a rotation with studs like Kendrick and Moyer.

Also Happ has lost about 4 MPH on his fastball it seems due to the injury he had this year, and nobody is sure he will regain the arm strength.

Plus he's not as young as people think, he's 28.

Also, if he's that great of a pitcher, why did the Phils have no confidence in him last October?

Sal, stop sounding like these tards that I am seeing on the message boards in Philly.

I did say "nearly" the same money, and I missed that the Astros are giving up $11 million, which pushes this into huge-steal-for-Philly territory. I just think it's odd that they viewed Lee as a luxury they could move for minor leaguers last year, and now they're sending prospects out for short-term pitching help.

What a steal. They didn't even have to give up Singleton. Now they need to go out and get BP help. Jokim Soria would be nice.

The prospects they are giving up are a dime a dozen. And I don't really define it as short term help when you figure they have Oswalt locked in for 2011.

Fact of the matter is they weren't going to resign Lee to a long term deal, I think the thinking was dealing Lee would set them up for a deal like this. They rolled the dice and won.

They got extremely lucky, mind you, but they still won.

I gotta get off the fan site on facebook. I am literally ready to punch some of these people who all of a sudden think we just traded Cy Young for a pile of dogshit.

Its like a site full of Kyle.

Philly is on Soria's no-trade list. He wants to close. Philly would have to ensure him he'd be the full-time closer for that to happen.

On the DL once in 10 years. Keep bringing the facts.

Over the hill?

Now that's funny. Obviously you haven't seen him pitch one inning this year.

Skibos' guide to being a sports Fan

Everybody seems to love a winner. While it can be annoying, becoming a bandwagon fan can be fun. Here is how to be a bandwagon sports fan.

Step 1

Choose a team that has enjoyed a good amount of success. Becoming a bandwagon fan of a very successful team will keep you from having to switch again next year.

Step 2

Cheer for a player instead of a specific team. When that player leaves a team, cheer for whichever team he plays for. Be sure to choose a very talented player, though, as his team is more likely to be successful.

Step 3

Claim to have always admired your new team. Being a bandwagon fan involves a little bit of fibbing every now and then.

Step 4

Buy cheap and generic apparel from your favorite team. Since you're just a bandwagon fan, there is no need to spend $100 on a unique game-day jersey.

Step 5

Once your team starts losing, stop cheering for that team. If somebody asks you about this, simply tell the person that you don't really care all that much about this particular team, anyway.

Step 6

Change teams every couple of years. A bandwagon fan has little loyalty to any one team. If another team becomes dominant, switch your allegiance to that team.

Step 7

Don't pay a lot of attention to your team until the playoffs. Everybody knows that bandwagon fans come out when their team is on the verge of a championship. Once the playoffs start, wear your cheap sweatshirt and support "your team" loudly.

Please stop making up random figures in your head dude.

He hasn't missed a start this year.

He spent time on the DL once in his career in 2009.

He has been in top 10 in innings pitched every year since 2004 besides the aforementioned 2009 while starting at least 32 games.

If he's missing this many starts and still doing that, then that's amazing, or it could be just your imagination.
