San Diego Studioís dedication to the MLB The Show series and its penchant for realistic animation, visuals, and gameplay have made the series consistently phenomenal year after year. And although improvements are typically modest with each iteration, thereís always something new and exciting to find when diving into a new The Show.

While MLB The Show 2019 has its fair share of small improvements across the board to help freshen things up, it also feels like the first substantial improvement in years. Yes, the core gameplay is very familiar and Franchise Mode remains nearly identical to last yearís, but Road to the Show serves as the culmination of years of improvements and a new mode, March to October, is a novel way to experience the MLB season.

As for the new new modes the more appealing of them 'March to October'. March to October is essentially a shortened season mode. One MLB team is chosen at the start so that various moments and games throughout their season are selected. These key highlights are a part of their March to October or the World Series with goals changing depending on the player's success of failure in a previous showdown. Considering how long baseball seasons and full games can be, even in video game form, 'March to October' is a welcome diversion. Its segmented gameplay lends itself to pick and play sessions making it much more approachable to get to the World Series.

Online play hasnít changed much at all in MLB The Show 19, allowing you to play online rated matches from the Play Now menu or challenge friends to exhibition matches through the quick menu, as well as the ability to do online Home Run derby or take your Diamond Dynasty team online as always. The netcode for the game seems quite solid through multiple matches played, though there are still the usual stuttering issues that can sometimes make fielding a fly ball an adventure.

Annual sports games often struggle to offer enough upgrades and new features to make a yearly purchase worthwhile, but MLB The Show almost always puts out an excellent game each and every year. MLB The Show 19 is certainly no different with the always spectacular visuals and realistic physics you come to expect from the series, as well as new features like March to October and Moments that will keep you playing all year long.

MLB The Show 19 stands apart from last yearís entry largely because of the excellent new March to October mode that brings a refreshing way to play through a whole season quickly. Playing through iconic events in baseball history in the Moments mode is hit or miss, but itís a welcome addition nonetheless. Fielding is improved thanks to new player ratings and complementing animations, but overall the core gameplay is quite familiar. Sadly, Road to the Show, Franchise, and Diamond Dynasty, while still great modes, donít turn the wheel. Finally, to enjoy all the features in the game, players can Buy MLB The Show 19 Stubs from Mmocs at a reasonable price.
